about

The Black Grief Project is an artist-led initiative exploring the lived experience of Black grief—through story, memory and community. Nneka M. Okona,  journalist, writer and author of Self-Care for Grief, founded the initiative, with a deep desire to document and translate Black aliveness through the lens of loss. Core components of The Black Grief Project include the dead zine, a digital magazine on Black grief, and Mourning Hour, a to-be-announced virtual grief sharing space for Black grievers held monthly.
